First of all sorry for the bad grammar or spelling since english is not my native language

As the title says i am having some really bad performance with ATI Catalyst 12.6 Legacy drivers, more specifically with new games like Hitman Absolution, Assassins Creed 3,Cod Black Ops(wich ran perfectly fine when i played it the first time), L.A Noire, Sleeping Dogs, etc...

It seems ATI have dropped supporting this series drivers and it really upsets me because my video card HD4850 could run a few months ago all the games pretty fine, for ex Crysis 2 at Medium-High settings smoothly enough.

AMD PLEASE FIX THIS!! I CANT RUN ANYTHING WITH DECENT FPS!

Here are my system specs:

AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) Oced to 2.6GHz

Asus M3A78-EM Motherboard

3GB RAM

ATI Radeon HD 4850 Series Oced

600Mhz Gpu Clock -1000Mhz Mem Clock

BIOS Date: 10/08/10 16:17:45 Ver: 27.01

Its always the same fps problem, games runs fine indoors or in small areas(40-50~ Fps) but when i face some objets, buildings, open areas with people and such, it gets really laggy (15~ Fps). This only happens if i FACE the area, i mean when i only look at it, if a start looking at the floor, even if the area is crawling with npc and action, the fps go back to normal(30-40~ Fps).

I will start showing it with screens of 3DMark06, since its a pretty old benchmark software and i am pretty sure my pc should run it smoothly(at least 30 FPS)

This is Gpu Test 1 Return to Proxycon

Here the camera is facing 2 guys getting shot at, there are sparks flying and boxes falling and FPS are good (44FPS)

Here is a bunch of guys just standing but the camera just moved to face a larger area and BOOM! Fps drop to 17...

Next GPU test is Firefly Forest and the fps are nice and smooth, they only drop to 25FPS for some seconds when facing a lot of trees.

Canyon Flight and Deep Freeze Tests FPS are great (fps only drops at Canyon Flight when the sea dragon jumps over the ship, Deep Freeze got high and smooth fps)

I tried Hitman Absolution Benchmark and this are te results:

Lowest Settings Possible No AA : 29 Max FPS- 15 Min - 22 Avg

Low Settings No AA: Same

Medium Setting No AA: 28 Max- 17 Min - 21 Avg

Medium Setting 4XAA : 25 Max- 16 Min 20 Avg

You seem to have a very serious CPU bottleneck.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 810 @ 3120MHz | RAM: Kingmax 2x2GB DDR2 800 @ 833MHz| MoBo: MSI K9A2 CF v1.0 (BIOS: 1.D)| GPU: Asus HD 6850 1024MB (DirectCu) @ 835/1135MHz | Display: L24FHD | PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad | OS: MS Windows 3.11 Pro x64

Agreed, that's usually the case when, after starting from lowest and increasing settings, FPS doesn't decrease. But if the latest drivers give lower performance, then don't use them. You're not trying to run any brand spanking new games, and the card is 4 years old, so you don't need them.

Ok... so i used some older drivers and sadly the issue dont go away.Played some slighltly older (2011-2012) games and they run great, so it seems that the problem is with specific new games and amd has released some driver/fix for this issues(amd absolution, assassins creed 3... etc) but this fixes are ONLY for the HD5000 series and up!I am reaaaally angry with this, i hope they release some hoftfix for this...they just cant drop the support for this cards, i dont hope to get great performance with ultra of high settings, i know my card is getting old... but damn! I want to play decently at least with medium or low settings, like i did with games just some months ago!

Im back! Like our dear friend Arnold would say, and i got some pics showing you this is clearly a software/driver problem and not cpu bottleneck or hardware issue.

I  only want new HD4800 series drivers/hotfix(WHATEVER!) that can optimize new releases so they could be played how they should.

Just look at the cpu and gpu usage and the FPS(Where it says D3D11), they are around 50% and fps are low(hovering around 20-25).

In the last image i look at the floor and fps,gpu and cpu usage goes up.

Some L.A Noire pics(2011), its kinda poorly optimized, capped at 30fps but plays good.

You can have CPU bottleneck with less than 100% usage. It depends on how well the game is optimized for multiple CPU cores. (Is that a Rockstar game? You can bet it's badly optimized.) You seem to be around 50-60%, which means only 2 cores are used, but they're maxed out and bottlenecking the game.

So if this is a cpu bottleneck will i get a major improvements if i upgrade to a Phenom 2 X4 965 BE 3.4ghz ? Or it is not worth it? This seems to be the best cpu i can get for my Asus M3A78-EM.

I think it will nearly double your current fps, especially if you'll OC it to 4GHz or higher.
