Hi all,

I just received a XFX HD 4650 AGP to help boost an aging Shuttle xpc. Originally I downloaded the latest Catalyst (v12.6) for this card but the card wasn't identified. It was kind of a unstatisfying install because I never received any message about a failure or errors. The installer just closed.
I finally went to XFX and downloaded the latest Catalyst they had posted (v12.3). The Catalyst installed detected the card, installed the drivers, and told me to reboot (instead of just disappearing like the 12.6 installer did).
Hoping having an older version of the drivers might allow me to upgrade to 12.6, I tried it again but no luck. Same experience as before.
I then ran the AMD Driver Autodetect but was given the message "We were unable to find your product or OS". After I closed the message I am shown that my Graphics Hardware is identified as "0x1002 - 0x9495 AGP" and my OS as "Windows XP 32-bit" but I'm not given a "Best Driver for this device".
Although the 12.3 drivers are working for me, the 12.6 drivers are for this card and I'm hoping to install them to resolve some slight issues I am having with some other apps on my system.

Any clues why the Catalyst installer for 12.6 is totally ignoring my card?

BTW: Here is what the working Catalyst version look like.

The hard way:

Report the issue through the issue reporting form. If AMD happens to make a newer legacy driver, they might include your card. It may take months or forever.

The easy way:

Open the 12.6 driver inf file with notepad and add your card manually. It only needs some intuition. The best way is to locate the identifier of another 4650 AGP and replace the device ID to the one of your card. You'll lose the driver signature but there's nothing wrong with it as long as you know the reason.

The easier way:

Use a previous driver set such as the 11.x or 10.x series, you in no way need the latest drivers.

Still can run almost any game released for PC so far. You'd be right if it was a P II with Windows 98, but it's not.

Not really, the HD 4650 isn't particularly that powerful with 480 GFLOPS of power, which is only about twice a HD 7450 and 66% a 7570. Not going to be running Crysis or anything like that on it, so I still say just use the older drivers until the OP can save up for a Trinity based replacement system.
