Hello,

I have a pentium 4 with a radeon 9600 xt, i have the classic red vertical dots problem in the screen and i was trying to monitorize the temperature, the catalyst control center doesn't show my 3d card temperatures as amd vision engine control center does at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KufLCMHYjrc

How can I monitorize my card temperature? even trying to install msi afterburner didn't solve it, i don't know if my hardware is broken.

Anyone knows how to solve this?

Thank you in advance.

This is the view of the old cards catalyst control center:

I've just updated to latest drivers before posting.

So there is no sign of a fan control option neither any overclocking option.

Couple of things. One, you're in the wrong forum, the 9600 series is legacy by far and needs to be in the Extended Support section. And two, the updates for that card ceased lonnnnnng ago, go back to an 8 series driver, possibly even a 7 series, and leave it alone, it's an antique.

Sorry for the misspost, so you suggest using a modern (newer graphics card) driver? as my catalyst driver instead of updating with the recommended one I installed at the official page:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx

Using an 8 series driver, possibly even a 7 series will work? (let me see the temperature or will not work in my hardware?), may it spoil my hardware?

Thank you.

No, I said use an OLDER driver, 8 series (from 2008) or 7 series (from 2007). The 9600XT, though an extremely powerful card in its day, is now extremely old and unsupported by modern OSs. Performance updates for the card ceased long ago, so using newer drivers is completely unnecessary.

I'll try it, cause if the graphic card is dead, i need to find a greater AGP graphic card than mine due to motherboard, it didn't exist no more than 10-12 AGP graphic cards better, so trying to find one will be complicated, cause my mb doesnt support PCIe.

It didn't work, I tested the 2000x 3000x 4000x driver which according to this:

http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88&pgno=4

Is the next driver not included in the "Legacy package".

In fact it installed correctly but I lost my higher resolution (1280x1024) so I opted to uninstall it again.

Any ideas how to monitorize temperature?

I've only found a radeo 3450n at my local stores so i had to buy it. little worst hardware with twice Ram, same specs, but only 50€.

So as i 've read on other forums the graphic card made red dots on screen because it was dead, somehow the moderboard fan stopped working regularly, now it works 100%.

Ironically the *****3000 driver is the only driver supported (No legacy), i've got 1280x960 on desktop becasue 1280x1024 is unsupported, but games run at 1280x1024, strange.

So why do you keep spending money to keep that antique on life support? Bite the bullet and at least move into this decade.

I recently (1 Year before)spent 67€ on two sticks of 2x1GBx33€ of ram (To run properly elder scrolls oblivion), i'm at performance on this decade, and my processor's got 2,6 GHZ dual core.

Now i've got another problem, i've got constant switches to desktop in the new radeon 3450 in games like Heroes 3 or thief I, either Oblivion i'm going to return the graphics card unless something change, i'm trying between the both newest drivers  in the AMD webpage but if this is not solved i'm returning the card.

The problem is serious, because none of the shops i know have any other graphics with aGP than this, so first i' will checjk for a defective hardware if its not a driver issue.

Other thing, may this constant switch to desktop be due to a motherboard overheating, or a graphics card overheating?, once again i do not know how to monitorize temperature

Switches means switches, not crashes the game is still playable but is a total nuisance each less than a minute return to the game from windws..

I'm without job, till i don't find a job i cannot purchase a new MB+Processo+Ram+graphics, with a better graphics i could have runned oblivion fluently, but this graphics is as bad or good as a the 9600XT from 2003... So i have 4-18 FPS, exactly the same, this because shops dont have (a little little)better AGP hardware

Got to do with the drivers, reinstalling seemed to solve it.
