I have a horrible feeling that the amswer is going to be something along the lines of "It's a legacy card, it's not supported anymore" but I'll ask anyway...

I have an XFX HD4890 Black Edition, it's a few years old but still performs fantastically for me.

I also have Windows 8.  The card has worked flawlessly since W8 was launched and the Catalyst Control Centre also worked fine.

I updated to W8.1 today and now Catalyst won't work

I get a pop up box saying that Catalyst couldn't launch and there are currently no settings that Catalyst can control.

I've tried reinstalling the recommended driver pack and then I tried the Beta driver but neither of them works.

At the moment my colours are washed out and I have black bars at the edges of my screen. Before the update to W8.1 I had to use the scaling options in Catalyst to make the image fit my screen - I can't do this now

Is there anything I can do?

Here is a link to read about "yes" legacy cards.

As far as getting your current card to work is to roll back to Windows 8 by doing a Refresh under 8.1 which will put back Windows 8. You will have to re-install everything (software).

The alternative is to un-install the CCC package, use the default window's drivers. Go out and by a newer card that would support WDDM 1.3 driver.

Thanks for the swift reply!

I had a feeling that the solution would be to get a new card

Time to spend some money I suppose!

The HD 7790 is a little more powerful than the 4890, and the HD 7870 Ghz is about twice as powerful, and the 260X is about 33% faster.
