I am curious as to why support for my video card (Radeon HD 4550), which was present in the preview version of Windows 8.1, is now suddenly and very noticeably absent from the final version. The OS installed the generic Windows driver, which leaves a shrunken desktop and black border around my screen, but I can't install the proper AMD driver. Every time I try, it fails. As a result, I no longer have access to the Catalyst Control Center and the scaling options I need to make the desktop fill the screen. I really want to like Windows 8.1 but this is a deal breaker. I'd appreciate any information.

You seem to be a bit late to the party. I wonder how you know which section to post in.

+1 for windows8.1 legacy drivers

My 4870 runs everything fine. No need for an upgrade.

My X1650 runs fine too, still I don't QQ for even proper vista drivers, not to mention 8... Old hardware runs best with old software as they were designed to work together. I wonder what 8.x does to you you cannot let go. Going just for the higher version number is not always the best idea.
