Hello!

I am trying to update an old driver distributed by Acer for Mobility Radeon HD4250

I have tried the suggested

13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe

but it will install Manager and HDMI audio only, not even the graphics driver

I have tried the non legacy but the last one  has messed up the system, so I get BSOD at every startup

no way to unistall in safe mode?

I have found informations about an utility

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/catalyst-uninstall-utility.aspx

why is this download password protected?

does it work in safe mode? or will it complain failing to load an hw detection driver?

AMD has pulled that uninstall program...don't think it's available anymore. If you are trying to uninstall your drivers, use your computer control panel > uninstall a program > select AMD install manager , use express uninstall all AMD software including the install manager. Reboot. Install the new drivers. Reboot.

I have had all sort of problems with this HD4250 with BIOS BK-ATI VER010.094.001.053.037868 including BSOD for a bad/wrong HDMI audio driver

My advice to Acer Aspire 5552 users who are trying to upgrade both Windows 7 to SP1 and driver from 8.632.1.2000 to  8.970.100.1100 is to download the latest drivers on Acer website VGA_AMD_8.783.2.0_W7x86W7x64_A so you can install SP1 and all of the updates for Windows 7 x64

then

1) uninstall both Realtek HDMI for Radeon and High Definition Audio driver

2) run catalyst 13.9 legacy for Mobility HD4xxxx and exit (just unpack files to c:/AMD/support)

3) manually update VGA driver using device manager -> driver -> update

4) install latest HDMI for Radeon and latest HighDefinition from Realtek website (for e.g. HDMI_R270 and 64bit_Win7_Win8_Win81_R273)

5) install the driver using the install manager in C:/AMD/support (it will update video driver and HDMI audio driver)

6) if anything is ok you can rerun the installer from the support subdirectory and install Control Center and then AMD APP SDK runtime

I guess the best way is to uninstall from control panel all of the old software from AMD and Realtek before attempting to setup catalyst 13.9 legacy for Mobility Radeon HD4250.

I can tell that catalyst software did not recognize what the laptop was running and my fault leading to HDMI audio BSOD wast to run the setup for non-legacy hardware

since listsvc and disable are not available in windows 7 I had to edit the registry in safe mode to disable the faulty/wrong .sys driver

The proper way:

1. Download drivers from the Acer website made specificaly for your card.

2. Install them.

There's no way you need to mess around with the latest generic AMD drivers when you're using an ancient card that barely runs minesweeper. Firefox and office can run on any drivers.

I finally got +6% speed in Uningine Sanctuary Demo version 2.3

8.783.2.0  vs 8.970.100.1100  no big difference and no driver will give the necessary 5x speed boost

just because it is an ancient laptop I wanted the latest driver

unfortunately we get used to edit office files with Dell Alienware and play games with cheap old latptops
