Hello community,

I have been using the above card since 2002 on XP for display purposes only.  I never used any multimedia functions.

Now I thought to capture some VHS cassettes w/o installing MMC or other components from the original "ancient" CD (Catalyst 2.03) as  I am not sure what I'll be getting into. Instead I ran VLC which in turn detects ATI rage theater video as capture device but there is no capture, just plain VLC window. With Webcam VLC works fine.

Device manager shows all ATI rage theater WMD driver installed. Add/remove programs shows ATI Control Center and ATI Display Drivers as installed.

There is also a DAO displayed as "installed", but probably not the ATI one. I dont think I installed it 12 years ago. Certainly not the MMC.

Question: does an other vendor's capturing software need ATI components besides WDM driver, like DAO/MDAC, Encoder etc? Or should I "risk" installing DAO and MMC from the old CD?

Thanks a lot!
