I understand that support for old hardware had been stopped but kindly try to fix the issues of the driver with windows 8.1 I can see that you released update (14.4 driver) on 4/25/2014 for legacy hardware but for xp only (on the following link):

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%20XP%20-%2064&RenderOnServer=true

I hope you expand the support to windows 8.1 as till now and after year and half we still find only this buggy driver (13.1 on 1/21/2013) (on the following link):

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%208%20-%2064

kindly understand that a lot of us who still running this old hardware got update to windows 8.1 (as u know xp support ended) and it works great as windows.. only this issue will be solved and we'll be fully satisfied

kindly release driver that works fine with 8.1 (or expand the release of 14.4 legacy to work under windows 8.1 without problems) even if it's individual effort from your developers team

thanks in advance I love your products cause you are aware of this statement (price versus performance) and also you care about low to med users and give them enthusiast solutions with low price compared to NVidia or Intel thanks AMD

There's no point in running the latest OS on old hardware. However, if you really want to, try FLEM. Don't expect official support though, AMD already stated they won't add 8.1 support for legacy cards.

dude there are alot of AMD users who have high end legacy hardware (like who have hd 4950, 4970, 4990!) .. and I guess they should get some attention on driver issues with windows 8.1 (or even 8 or 7) especially when AMD releases driver update 14.4 for xp users only !! (who had expired) ..  I hope some AMD developers expand this release to work smoothly with other versions of windows. and finally thank you for reply

The XP driver is not really an update, its driver version is the same as it was befre. Probably it only has some cosmetic changes, like a vcredist update or whatever. I haven't actually investigated it.

The HD 4900 series in its day was very high end "how to give nVidia a heart attack" hardware, but that was 2008, 6 years ago. I know, I owned both a HD 4850 and HD 4850x2. But in 2014 what was high end in 2008 is now lower mid level. Taking into account the fairly poor scaling of the VLIW5 cards, the HD 4870x2 is only about as powerful as the $109 R7 260X while using half the power and producing much less heat and noise.

I have no crashes running old SM2 compliant hardware under windows 7, like the radeon 9600 pro, x1650 pro, x1550, geforce fx5200 etc. If you have crashes, you have faulty hardware somewhere in the system.

no it's driver issue as there are many friends running (hd 4870, hd 3850 and chipset 780g (hd 3200)) and all got same issues and conflicts running the driver (13.9 for 7 & 13.1 for 8 and 8.1)
