Hi,

My sons PC is a Dell Studio laptop PC running Windows 8.1.  The current driver is 6/20/2012 v. 8.97.10.6 for his ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650.  We I try to install it via AMD Catalyst, it give me an error of 'Driver not installed' and Catalyst will not even open and run on the pc.  When I try to update it manually via control panel I get a message saying it has the most current version.

He has not been able ot play MineCraft for months and this is the first chance I have gotten to try and update his PC with the new drivers.  Minecraft also gives an error that updated drivers need to be installed.

Any ideas on how I can get the newest drivers installed on his PC?

Thanks for your help,

David

The legacy 4xxx series of cards do not meet the minimum requirements for Windows 8.1. Only the 5xxx series and above work. The cards do not meet the minimum requirements for Windows 8 either, but Windows 8 is more forgiving and reports are that the 4xxx series work, to a dimished degree.

Also keep in mind, that compaired to a desktop computer, laptops do not have much flexibility. The first thing a person should do when wanting to 'upgrade' to Windows 8 or 8.1 is to check with the laptop manufacturer to see if the laptop will even support it. Some that do, require a bios update. Most older laptops will not...no matter what Microsoft says.

You can try FLEM, but it's an unsupported, unofficial thing.
