Don't need info on basic hardware like cpu ram etc... Need to know which GPU is better suited to decoding multiple h.264 video streams and the tech behind it. (for my basic brain growth).

Have read hundreds of sites, forum posts, whitepapers, etc... on everything from basic gpu operation to stream proccessing platforms (stanford) and my brain is begining to hurt.

Yeah I'd probably go with a Radeon.  I doubt you'd get much extra benefit from using a pro card.  You can save a bundle that way also.
