A SSD Hard drive built with 2 independent sections, 2 hard drives in 1 case, so you can raid off of one drive?

For one, it's not needed, and secondly, J.Micron based drives (first gen SSDs) did that, and they were still horrid.

The dual SSD drives in one case I am referring two would be two independent drives, each one with it's own SATA 3 output, sharing the same power supply connector. effectively it would be like having two separate hard drives but only taking up one hard drive location. Some of the benefits would be better airflow in the case, needing less room in a case, setting up raids in laptops and a few other items that I can think of.

Except a single double capacity drive has speed, 2.5" size, lower power consumption, half the chance of failure, cheaper price...

Yes, two SSD's striped together perform much better than a single one of twice the capacity.  And yes, it would be nice to have that in a single 3.5" bay with one power connector and two SATA connectors.

But that's an awfully limited market to target.  Everyone outside of computer hobbyists need something that will fit in a standard drive bay with standard connector locations.

Now, change that into a single SATA connector that acts as a port multiplier, and you might be getting somewhere.  I have doubts about the performance, but there's at least potential.

 

For laptops it's still not needed, their mobility hardware makes super high transfer rates not a necessity, and for many not a possibility (for example, my laptop, an MSI GT-735, which I put in an OCZ Agility 4 128GB I don't get but, sustained, 150MB/s). For the enthusiast market, there are already solutions out there that outperform 4 SSD's in RAID, such as the 960GB OCZ Revodrive 3 X2, which is actually a self contained RAID 0 unit with 4 controllers, and a rated speed of well over 1GByte/second. Unless you are running a server or a high end workstation where you constantly have to shift loads of data, a single modern SSD is plenty sufficient.

The largest market would probably be laptops where space is limited and let them get closer to instant on.
