New to the forums.  I used to be an AMD guy when I owned a Radeon 9800 but after getting back into PCs about a year or so ago I chose to go with two GTX 690s.

Suffice it to say it's been quite horrible. As far as driver support is concerned, it's completely nonexistant.  The system was running great for about 6 months until new drivers and new games were released which has forced me to choose between playing new games like BF4 or CoD:G or reinstalling my previous drivers to play games like Civ V, L4D2, etc.

So I'm thinking of buying two R9 290Xs but I'm concerned about similar issues.  Do you think it's worth it to just get a pair of HD 7970s and avoid some of the hassles? Or are the issues with the R9s not that common?

Manufacturers will be releasing custom cooled versions of the 290 (non X) soon, but unless you play at 5760x1080 or above, a pair of 280X/HD 7970 will do just fine.

I actually do play at 5760x1080.  How long do you think the wait is for the X? I was actually planning on water cooling anyway.

Koolance already has a water block out for the 290x, so you can just pick up a couple of reference editions and have at it.
