I don't know if I am coming late to the party, but I just discovered this cool program from the same guy that published Processor Explorer. I stumbled on this while looking for hidden processes that could be slowing my Windows 7 and IE 11 down. I am a little spoiled by Win 8.1...anyhow, if you take a look at it and like this kind of stuff...grab it. A simple uncheck stops the auto-start of programs you won't believe were even on your computer. Or put a check in the box to return to default if you don't like your choice.
Edit: I have found a better DNS benchmark than Namebench ( no more 'google appears to be highjacked '). It has two test modes, one type is identical to Namebench in results and recommendations. However there is another test which is more specific to your location...rather than a 'one size fits all' search.
