I am using a single monitor setup with the DVI port; don't think this problem is monitor number specific.

I get BSOD with Skyrim and an HD 5750 on Windows 7 64.  A bit off topic (sorry) but I've been wrestling with this problem on and off for more than a month and I'm posting wherever I'm seeing similar problems.

Try it yourself by disabling your soundcard completely

I have this issue aswell with my Sapphire 7870 GHz Edition all the time during gaming. It is absolutely unacceptable that AMD does not acknowledge this issue officially and gives us a ruff timetable of when this will be resolved.

This problem persists since the release of the card and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it is an unresolvable hardware issue and AMD tries to sweep it under the rug. In this case it was the last AMD card I ever bought, it is far too frustrating to ever deal with again.

I'm messing around with this problem since 3 month now. Sapphire closed my tickets and AMD can't help, too. There doesn't seem to be a solution. I'm now fu...up because i thought/hoped AMD can fix it and didn't returned the card immediatly after the first crash. This was a very big mistake. My vendor doesn't want to exchange it. Currently i'm still waiting for a feedback from them what to do.

But yay.. officially there is no problem with the 7870 and nobody seems to really care about it..  so wtf? Regarding to support it's my mainboard, Windows, PSU or <insert random part here>. I'm now running the system for nearly 1 month without any blackscreen since i removed the card and returned it. I've tested the RMA'ed cards unsuccessfully, too. I even exchanged the PSU for the recommended 800+ "good PSU" without any success.

My current conclusion is:  I've bought a card for 300+ euros having trouble since the last 3 month (and wasting many time and money) without any foreseeable solution in the upcoming future /cheers.

Thats kind of sad :/

There is no dumb or event in windows and you can't reproduce it because it's completely random. I've tested every component of the computer and already contacted the support, too. If you had read the thread carefully you would have seen this. But it's nice you provide the links... again.

I have got exactly the same problem with a hd7970, just posted a topic about it on here. I can't help but suspect there definitely is a hardware problem with some batches of the 7xxx series. I've seen a lot of people having this exact bug/problem on 7770 7850 7870 7950 and 7970.

I'm thinking more and more this is a assembly problem of components on the videocard itsself. I mean how can you explain some people going through 3 7970 cards with nothing but blackscreens, and then getting a "lucky hit" card which suddenly works with all the latest drivers (12.4 12.6 12.8). AND this all happening in exactly identical system configs and settings (meaning without changing anything about their hardware config and settings)?

Hey everyone, im  having this exact same issue with the 7770 series basic PMD1 model. Like others said, i have tested this card up and down and still seem to get random crashes any time animations are involved. Im about to go return this card because I am so disgusted by the lack of outreach by AMD customer service. I feel like i ought to be compensated for the massive amount of time i've spent on this, when i buy a video card for my computer at a hundred big ones, i dont expect to spend the next two weeks being frustrated at how dysfuntctional and low quality the product i purchased is, I expect to pop it in, maybe do a driver cleanup/install and be on my merry way. Dont think I will be purchasing any more of these products in the future.

I have the same problem (hangs in gaming with black screen or vertical lines) with my Sapphire 5770 Vapor-X. I tried almost every driver released in the last 2 years with no luck.

Same Problem here. And i am verry angry! 300 Bucks! Never again AMD! Since 9700pro - this was my last card ever from amd! They are not able to solve the problem, instead they sell the junk cheaper and cheaper. This 7870 is useless! You can't game, you can't work. The only thing this card can is crash!

What I tried:

Disabled Networkcard in Bios (realtek) [onboard soundcard is anyway disabled]

Disabled and removed Creative Soundblaster Audicy 4 Pro

Disabled AMD HDMI Audio

All Catalst Drivers from 12.3

Underclocking the card

RMA - Went from a XFX to Saphire - same problem

New clean Windows 7 64 install

Hardware:

P67 (Asrock), 8 GB (Corsair), HP 2207/1680@DVI, Canon Printer, Creative Audigy 4pro. All drivers latest.
