AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History
Catalyst 12.4 currently installed, attepted to update to 12.6, will not update, removed old driver via Windows add/remove programs, removed 12.4 successfully, rebooted as asked, attempted to install 12.6, never asked to reboot but I did, nevertheless it appeared to have installed but in reality never did.  Catalyst Control Center did not install either.  Avast Anti-virus was shut off during removal/install.  Had to uininstall the failed 12.6 installation and reinstall 12.4.

AMD, please provide a solution for this - it looks like the .inf for the complier was incorrectly assembled

Not to mention you are posting IN THE WRONG SECTION. Legacy kiddies need to post under the LEGACY forum. The HD 2600 AGP is a very weak unofficial card and when paired with the very old Windows XP does not require the latest drivers by any stretch of the imagination, just go back to an older set and leave it alone until you are ready to move to modern, supported hardware.

I understand that you are having difficulties installing the 12.6 AGP Drivers for OS. If this is incorrect, please let me know as the information provided may change.

This is a known issue that we are experiencing with the 12.6 AGP drivers. I have forwarded this information on to the Catalyst Engineers and they are working on fixing this issue as we speak. For now, monitor the AGP Hotfix page http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeonaiw-xp.aspx and when the date changes to a newer day, install that one. I don't know what happened to this suite, but the Catalyst team is working on fixing it as we speak, and hopefully a resolution will be offered shortly. In the mean time, you can install the 12.4 AGP drivers at http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/12-4_agp-hotfix_xp32_dd_ccc.exe , but I personally recommend the 11.12 suite as it was a more stable build (http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/11-12_agp-hotfix_xp32_dd_ccc.exe).

If you really want the 12.6 drivers, there is a possible way to get around it that I figured out in our lab. With the 12.6 WHQL drivers that you installed originally at the beginning of this conversation, you can manually install the drivers by opening up Device Manager, selecting Update Driver under Properties, then selecting the "Have Disk" option when it asks for location of drivers. When it browses for the disk, have it look at C:/AMD/Support/12-6.../Packages/Drivers/ and select the first .inf file there. It should populate a list of all supported cards and you can select your 2600 from that list (make sure that you have the right version, IE 2600XT vs 2600 Pro). If you want to give it a try, let me know how it goes and hopefully it will remedy this issue instead of having to wait for the Catalyst team to fix their installation issues. Good luck!
