I upgraded on old XP machine to try out win8; the upgrade assistant reported that I wouldn't get dual monitors but as I only had the one I never thought anything about it.

After the upgrade device manager was reporting an unknown video controller device and the display adapter was shown as a Microsoft Basic Display adapter.

Downloaded the ATI Autodetect and it reports "unable to find product or os".

Is there anything else I can try short of opening the PC case and looking to see if there are any identifiers on the card (would it normally say what the product was on the card)?
