As far as I know internal game profiles are tied to CCC as well as external ones (CAPs). Installing driver only is recommended for office PCs only where game performance doesn't matter.
I understand that CCC was a concern 10 years ago when it affected general performance of a PC in a very drastic (and negative) way, but today it's fairly invisible. You can turn off the tray icon and forget about it if you want to.
