Today i tried to install the new Catalyst 13.1 on Windows 8 64-bit for my HD6950 2GB, but the installation failed. After that i uninstalled the previous Catalyst 12.10 driver, removed the remaining directories and cleaned up my registry. I tried to install again and it failed again. Looking at the installation report i found this:

HDMI Audio Driver Fail
Driver Install: the driver package does not specify a hardware identifier

After disabling the HDMI Audio driver installation during the setup the installation went well. I don't use the HDMI Audio function so it doesn't really matter to me, but i'm sure there are people out there who do. So i thought i'd share this with you. Hopefully they will fix this problem.

I think I have the reason for the HMDMI driver failing to instal.

I just looked at the 64 bit inf for the HDMI driver and it says its for the x86 so therefore wont install.

Seems it needs to be repackaged with the 64 bit HDMI driver.

Hopefuly AMD will fix this shortly.

I just found that the 64 bit HDMI driver is in the 32 bit package but its unsigned and wont install unless driver signing is off.

Oh this is for Windows 8

Same here. I helped myself out by running the installer of the previous Catalyst driver, which installed its version of the HDMI driver and didn't touch anything the Catalyst 13.1 installer had already installed.

One just wonders why AMD doesn't test-install their driver packages on every operating system they support?
