Every time I boot my PC which is running Windows 8 Pro 64bit it boots to a black screen with just the mouse pointer, if I reboot it then loads ok, it seems like some sort of graphics card problem but I'm not quite sure what's going on. The graphics card is a Radeon HD5450. Any ideas?

Anything in the event viewer?

Thanks for the reply, I'm a bit of an amateur when it comes to things like this, what should I be looking for in the event viewer?

Control panel -> Administrative tools. Once you opened it, go to windows logs, and check the log called system. There's a way to filter the event (on the right side of the window). If you untick information and audit success, you'll see only error messages and warnings. Look at them, maybe you'll see something graphics related.

Thanks again for the help, the only errors I could see were to do with the fact that Windows didn't shut down properly, the reason for that being that I just had to turn the PC off and on again. I have previously tried a Windows rebuild and that seemed to fix it for a few days, I also tried to boot in safe mode and do a Windows repair but it said it couldn't which I took to mean there was nothing to repair. I'm struggling to know what to do next, I've asked Microsoft for help and also the manufacturer of the PC itself (Shuttle). I find it a bit strange that after the initial reboot it loads perfectly ok.
