Hello, and thanks for your help. I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 8 (a clean install), and was updating all of my drivers. Everything was going fine until I got to the drivers for my Crossfire 6870/6850 graphics cards. During the installation of the latest (13.1) catalyst drivers, my screen flashes as normal during a driver update, but then freezes on a black screen. On a hard restart I get a BSOD on atikmpag.sys. This issue also occurres with anything past and including the 12.11 drivers. I've come to realize that if crossfire is manually disabled or if a card is unplugged, I can install any driver I like without error. The second I enable crossfire, however, I get a black screen. I'm not overclocking anything. Thanks in advance.

Specs:
Windows 8
AMD Phenom II x6 1075T (stock)
Crossfire HD6870/6850
128gb Crucial M4 SSD
Asus M5A97

Current drivers:
Catalyst 12.10
All other drivers (chipset, SATA etc) all up to date

Well, if you read around here a bit, you'll see that almost everyone with a CF setup has problems with these drivers, so it's not a problem on your end. Also it's not just people who downgraded to Windows 8.

I suggest you try 13.2, and if it also fails to work, just keep 12.10 until a newer release comes, which people report to work properly.

Until then: amd.com/report

Yeah I reverted back and reported the error. I'm suprised that AMD would introduce such a common error and not have it fixed several versions later. Anyway thanks for the help.

No problems with 13.1 and CF here with Windows 7.  Perhaps the problem isn't all that common at all.
