So after hours of chkdsk memtest and microsoft support I finally nailed what was causing a hard lock of my computer.

^ that is the error. What it is is the CCC program trying to update something. however I have no way that I know of to turn off auto update in CCC 13.1 HELP

There is no 'auto-update' per se...there is a 'automatically check for updates' in the older driver suites. You can disable that. If you need further advice, then furnish what is asked for in "PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING".

Issue Details

The computer hard locks, screen freezes and the only solution is to manually press the power button until the computer powers down and then power it back on.

ASrock p67 Fatal1ty pro. All you need to know is the bios and all the drivers for it are up to date and have been since the last release. This is not a SATA controller error as I have the B3 stepping MB.

Happens randomly, can be doing nothing or can have 50 programs running. Has happened as early as 2 hours after startup and as late as 10 days solid running.

Sigh... I said this in my original post.

Malwarebytes scan = clean
Windows defender scan = clean
chkdsk /f = no errors on any sectors
memtest = no errors detected (testing single sticks in slot 1 - 4 interchanged a total of 16 combinations)
Prime 95 stable for 12+ hours up to DAYS if need be unless a random crash occurs (the crash has never occured during a prime test)

Did you 'upgrade' Win7 to Win8? There have been issues posted. Did you do a clean install of the drivers? An example is here > http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=444&threadid=162444&enterthread=y  If you didn't attempt a clean install I would certainly do that first...

EDIT: You can forget using the AMD removal tool as it only works on Win7. But do use the Driver sweeper...thats the main thing.

Yes I did upgrade.  Yes, I did do a clean install of the drivers. I do a clean install of the drivers everytime AMD releases a new driver set (which seems to be once every 3 to 4 months)

Can you link me to the issues in which upgrading from Win 7 to 8 caused issues? I can't clean install Win 8. I have to install Win 7 Ultimate from disk and then "update" to 8 because of the way I bought it. I believe there may be a way for me to create a pure Windows 8 installation disk. I was planning on installing fresh in May anyway. 

Nope....no help on the Win8 full install....I had the same problem with Win7. I bought the 'upgrade' version from Vista. Then when my hd crashed I couldn't install Win 7 except by installing Vista first...which I had given away. When I say 'issues posted' I mean there are considerable more posted issues from 'upgrades' to Win8 than OEM.
