EDID is the "BIOS" of your monitor, you can't change it in the drivers or video card as it is located in your monitor somwhere inside a chip. You can override it through the registry but you already know that. How to do it? I can't give step by step instructions, but I'm sure Google can.

PowerStrip will help you

And yes, unless you have specialized hardware to interface with your Monitor's chip you cannot actually change the EDID of the monitor.
