Okay.  I recently updated my video card, going from an older Sapphire 4870x7 2GB card to a new 2GB 6970 card.  The driver install took a while and I had some pretty annoying problems with the installer, but eventually CCC installed OK... Or so I thought.  I have been having issues with games and sometimes other apps freezing and crashing.  I started to hunt for obvious problems and found that Windows and DirectX 11 seemed to think I still had the old 4870x2 card installed.  I have tried completely removing the drivers and reinstalling them several times but I keep having the same card show up in DXDiag, but in CCC I see the correct card.  Any idea how to fix this.  I think that this may be what's causing my game issues since the old 4870x2 card wasn't DirectX 11 compliant and maybe the games are not handling the card correctly because of it.  Please Help...

Yes....you need to use driver sweeper to remove all the old AMD software before you try and install the new driver suite. A clean install. Check this tut, and pay special attention to the netframeworks requirements.

I already tried that procedure 3 times.  I had to, just to get the latest Catalyst to install.  But I tried it again, and no luck.

This sound a lot like a problem I had with installing a new sound Card. I know what does a sound card have to do with a Graphic card. The procedure I use to get the driver to install .

1. follow the procedure used to cleaning up the old drivers

2. Restart your system, if windows ask to install driver for your card Don't.

3. Go into control panel, Device manager and check and see what driver is running your card, it should be a generic driver. If it is any thing other then a generic uninstall form device manager, Do not reboot.

4. Go to the location you have the AMD drivers and install using custom, click on the item you want to install.

5. Also install the new chip set driver if they apply.

I will say this again, this is the procedure I use for may sound card. As I have not had this problem with my Graphic card I'm not sure it will help. But its worth trying.
