I've just bought a 7790 for one of the office PCs that still runs XP, for the last 2 hours I've been scouring the 'net trying to find a driver that will work with it, the fact I'm posting here shows I failed miserably.

All the versions I've tried install CIM no problem, but none show CCC or the drivers as being an option to install.

Am I likely to find one, I don't care what version it is, or have I wasted my money?

I'm not opposed to hatchet-jobbing an .inf file if need be, and I fully appreciate XP is now an ancient depreciated product, but surely I can't be the only person with this particular problem...

MSI HD7790

Windows XP 32bit

2GB RAM

Thanks

There are no drivers for XP. Maybe there will be later, as XP is still a supported OS for almost a year.

MSI only list Windows 7 and Windows 8, I appreciate the attempt, but you think in the two hours I'd been searching, I wouldn't have checked the company whose brand the card was ?

Well really how do we know what you checked. One thing for sure I know you did not check, was to see if your system supported the video card before you bought it with that said we can only suggest solutions we think you may not have tried.

And since AMD doesn't have a driver for it and I pray they leave XP in the past where it belongs and focus on Windows 6.x, the manufacturer would be the only one with a driver. And no, they do not only list Windows 7 and Windows 8, they list Windows Vista as well.

Touché.

In the end, I just bit the bullet, and bought the user a Windows 7 license, formatted and installed that.

This is what tech.support@amd.com has to say about xp and hd7790

Response and Service Request History:Unfortunately as the Radeon 7790 is a brand new GPU and XP is under a Legacy support model (due to support for it ending from Microsoft in 2014, with most updates already deprecated by Microsoft), there are currently no drivers available for the Radeon 7790 in Windows XP 32-bit or 64-bit. This may change in future XP driver releases, but I can only confirm that we do not currently have any drivers available for this graphics card in Windows XP 32-bit, and cannot comment about any features of future driver releases. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reply to this e-mail directly and I will try to provide any additional information that you may require. Thank you for contacting AMD!In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.Best regards,AMD Global Customer Care
