When I play computer games like bioshock or hitman absolution I get screen tearing sometimes. When I run uningine heaven 4.0 on higher settings I get a bunch of tearing quite often.

I've heard you can use vsync or something in your games to fix this. Can anyone tell me what you do to reduce tearing on each game? I got the impression that you need to tailor your settings for each game. Is this right?

I can't get into CCC right now on my pc to look things over since my CCC is glitching on me and won't open. I'm going to probably have to reinstall my OS to fix this unfortunately. Anyway, any tips on how to get rid of the tearing in my games once I get CCC open?

edit: my gpu is sapphire 7870 XT and OS is win 7 64 bit

Do a google search for 'verticle sync'...yes, it can stop screen tearing. I use vert sync in every game. It limits your fps to the refresh rate of your monitor...typically 60fps. You should look at a clean install of your drivers if you are having an issue with CCC. In the following link, is information on the netframework requirements for these newer drivers. That is the first thing you should do. >

Vertical synchronization (vsync) is the only way to eliminate screen tearing.

Many games allow you to set the option on directly.  Even without CCC working, you can use RadeonPro to force the option on, either globally or per game.

Keep in mind that the vsync setting in CCC does not work for most games. Always use the in-game option if there is one.
