A few days ago I build this rig:
Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
Processor: AMD FX-6300
Memory: corsair 4x4gb vengeance (compatible type according to list from Asus)
Graphics card: Asus EAH6970 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5
PSU: Antec High Current Pro HCP-750
OS: Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

HDD: WD digital 1 tb caviar green

Started the installation of the PC with a bios update for the motherboard to the latest version. After that I installed the latest chipset drivers from the website of asus. Next inline was the graphics drivers so I downloaded ATI Catalyst V13.4 (also tried some earlier versions upto 8.00). There are no OC's running on the computer and the temperatures are all below 38C.

Now before the installation of Catalyst the PC was stable with no problems. But after I get a random crash of the computer with everything going black except some lights on the motherboard. To start again, the PSU needs to be unplugged from te net for a few seconds.

Things I tried:

- Fresh install of windows

- Fresh install of windows on other HDD

- Older versions of the Catalyst

- a driver only installation of the videocard (with device manager)

- Tried two other videocards: HD4830 and a HD7970 with the same problem.

When i uninstall catalyst i am able to use the PC withouth any crashes.

Hopefully you guys have some thoughts on whats going on here.

Thankyou very much in advance,

HEY! I had the same problem with my Radeon 2600 HD PRO installed the drivers 13.1 after that played some games like Trackmania,GTR Evolution both games under 10 min PC frezzes 1st black screen, 2nd color blur screen, 3rd black screen then a (Blue Crash Dump screen--viewing like MS-DOS). So i did this I re-installed Windows7 installed my other software plus said games played them without a problem no issues. Video quality is just fine HD no problem able to play MKV,MP4 movie files.
