Graphics Card

Powercolor 7850 (previously had a 6850 in the machine which didn't have this issue... I bought a 7850 on the cheap and replaced it with that).

AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History

13.4

Operating System

Windows 7 64-bit, with SP1 and all latest patches

Issue Details

When the screens goes into standby (I have set windows to put the screens into standby after 10 minutes), they don't always wake back up.

Sometimes if I move the mouse the screens wake back up fine - this is what should happen every time.

Sometimes if I move the mouse, the screens backlights come on... but there's no actual image. The computer IS still running fine. If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, the screens back instantly back to life and bring up the main task manager window thing... I then hit the ESC key and it goes back to the desktop.

So that's the workaround for it... but it's annoying.

I used to have an AMD 6850 in the computer. I uninstalled the catalyst drivers, turned off the computer, removed the 6850, installed the 7850, turned the computer on and then installed the 13.4 drivers again.

Everything is working fine apart from this strange issue.

I installed the old 6850 into my daughters computer, also running the 13.4 drivers, and her computer doesn't have this issue. It's just mine with the 7850 that has the problem.

Your problem sounds like it may be similar to one that I was experiencing.

More info: Something else I noticed:

When the bug ocurrs, and even if succesfully recovering from it (which seems to be about a 50%/50% random chance), Windows tasks are suspended for a number of seconds (by whatever is going on with the driver.)  That is unacceptable to me.

I too am having this problem. But didn't think to use the alt>ctrl>del to get it to come back. I usually end up shutting it down.MSI AMD Phenom II X6ATI Radeon HD 5450

As an update for this, I have now reformatted my computer - a nice clean install of Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit) with the latest drivers for all my devices, including Catalyst 13.4.

It still has the exact same problem (I was hoping it was previously just because I swapped out my 6850 with the 7850).

My other two computers have a 6770 and 6570, and neither of those two experience this problem. It's JUST the one with the 7850 card.

From the others posting in this thread, it sounds like it's a 7XXX series problem Well except for the one directly above with the 5450 card though!

Update/Feedback: Installed the 13.8 Beta drivers and it seems to have completely resolved the issue for me.  My 7790 is also waaaaaaay more stable and more "smooth"!  Very encouraging to see such a big difference in the new Catalyst update.
