Hi,

I want to use my onboard HD4200 additional to my HD5850. I don't want to use them as a crossfire system, I just want to use two graphic devices at the same time.

Some month ago it worked very fine with my ASUS M4A88TDV-EVO/USB3, an older driver and Windows 7. I enabled surround view in BIOS, connected each GPU with a monitor and had an extended desktop with the benifit, that my HD5850 uses the idle clock in 2D-mode. I run games only on the monitor connected to the HD5850.

Now I'm using Windows 8 (same hardware) and the latest CCC doesn't supports the HD4200 anymore. To use my HD4200 I would have to install the legacy driver, but once I install the legacy driver it replaces the current driver for the HD5850 and the other way around.

Now my question: Is there any way to make it work again (using the latest driver for my HD5850) ? And how can I do it?

Many thanks an best regards,

Brandkanne

There's nothing you can do unless you use the legacy driver set, the HD 4000 series is legacy.

But my HD5850 isn't legacy. Is there no way to install legacy and 'normal' driver parallel to each other?

Nope, you'd be best off to go to eBay and pick up a cheap HD 5450.

Hmpf,

a kind of poor driver management. The HD4xxx series and older can be found on modern boards but are not fully supportet.

Thanks to you!

You had both display adapters working under Windows 7.

I don't know why you need Windows 8 - certainly not to use a touch screen - but probably the ability to use both displays in Win7 outweighs whatever benefit Win8 provides.

So reinstall Win7, sell your Win8 upgrade, and enjoy using both displays.  K?

That's because AMD has been lazier than Porche and has not released a new chipset since 2010 (the 900 series is a rebrand of the 800 series). Future CPU designs should integrate the Northbridge chipset onto the die itself, similar to APUs, as the next socket will supposedly unify the FM and AM lines.

Brand new HD 5450s can be found for as little as $10, that's still the best way to go. It's no a good idea to mix different series.

How the hell did this topic get brought back up anyway?

My bet is a spam bot posted their 'watch these movies" malware links on a random post...then was deleted by a moderator.

Actually I didn't, not at least for this thread. I wonder why gospelmidi suddenly responded to it ?
