when i want to update my drivers ( AMD 6970, windows 7 64 bit) do i uninstall the old driver and then instal the new one ? or do i simply install the new drivers over the old driver ???

People say different things. I always intall on top of the old one, never bother uninstalling. Never had an issue because of this, so I suggest this route.

Eydee's got his method, the "officially recommended" route is to do an uninstall first and to install the newer drivers, but this is time-consuming and most of the time you don't need to do worry about it. It's all about preference and whether taking extra time to uninstall/reinstall and possibly waste time needlessly is preferable to possibly having an issue and spending a while fixing it due to conflicting drivers.

I'm much prefer to uninstal the old driver first by using AMD Cleanup Utilty, and then instal the new one. But already tried without uninstaling first and had no prob at all. So yes, it much more about preference, i think.
