I have a surround sound system that is connected to my LG Smart TV via Optical.  The TV is connected to my HD 7790 via HDMI.
The problem is that I only get the "Stereo" option via in Playback Device Configuration (Windows 7 x64).

I understand that this is most likely due to my TVs EDID.  I need to force it to 5.1 from the current stereo mode (kind of like you do from the Sony Playstation).  How can I do that?

You can't, as far as I know.

Get a Hacked EDID from http://www.avsforum.com/t/1091403/edid-override-thread That worked for me with the same type of setup
