So.. is AMD planning to release an actual "Full Release" driver package soon for those of us who spent major $$$ on R9 290x cards?  I don't understand how they could release these cards and not even have a full set of drivers.  Over a week and we're still doing the "beta" thing.
Don't get me wrong, my cards are performing admirably, I just think it's odd that these cards are being sold with the only support being "As is" beta drivers.

Anyone know if there's an ETA for a proper driver release?

Thanks.

Beta = no WHQL

Talk to Microsoft to make the certification process faster.

WHQL = $250 fee per OS and 1-2 weeks of testing.

"Beta" drivers are not the same as "beta" software. They are not any more unstable or buggy than WHQL drivers can be, and they do not have any less chance of not working correctly, they're just not fully vetted and passed by Microsoft. I wish they'd quit doing it and go back to either monthly or bi-monthly releases, but they can't as long as game studios keep pushing out games with sloppy coding and don't give AMD access to everything they need months in advance so they can release mature drivers for that game.

my friend, these drivers have so many issues I would expect a WHQL in 2 months.

Damn WIn 8.1.. if it didn't exist, stability issues would've been cut in half. Now they have to work on 3 fronts.

What I was getting at is that it's kind of silly to release a "retail product" with only "beta" drivers.  They should have had these drivers ready and WHQL certified BEFORE the R9 290x went on sale.  It's like Bethesda releasing games that don't even work until 2 weeks later when they release a patch.  Don't sell it until it's ready.  Period.

All that said, my cards are working great.  I just want driver improvements to increase my benchmark scores.

Well, not more than buying them and especially not more than putting them into CF.

Especially when in a short time the board partners will release their own custom cooled versions which will be faster and quieter than yours, all for the same price if not cheaper. Enjoy your ePeen while it lasts.

Whoa there killer, I'm not the guy on here attempting to start something.  Epeen indeed.  I sold my old cards and bought the new ones.  It cost me almost nothing, and I don't regret being an early adopter.  The cards work fine.  That still doesn't excuse AMD from releasing a product without having fully developed drivers ready prior to retail.

Really? Aside from that buggy CoD Ghosts game which Infinity Ward and nVidia worked closely together on, and BF4 which both companies are having issues with because the game developer has to patch the sloppy coding, I don't see hundreds of people complaining about having the same issue in the same game, which would be the case if the drivers were garbage. So, do you have an actual grievance, or are you just complaining about AMD not having a WHQL driver package for the R9 290X, which can actually be inferior to a so called "beta" release?

Actually my original post didn't even contain a complaint.  I was just asking a question.  Relax guy.

Actually it was a complaint as well as a question:

Don't get me wrong, my cards are performing admirably, I just think it's odd that these cards are being sold with the only support being "As is" beta drivers.

Your complaint was that there was that AMD did not spend $750 and 1-2 weeks to have a WHQL driver, even though it would have resulted in an inferior driver for the highly anticipated yet very sloppily coded CoD Ghosts.

To cut the long story short, the next WHQL release will be 14.1 or 14.2. You must wait until january or february to get them. Until then, enjoy the "betas".

Note: I have a fairly old card and haven't installed WHQL drivers for more than a year. They're usually inferior, as BZ said.
