Pretty basic - and surprising - issue here.

Win7-64 Lenovo desktop machine, pretty much plain vanilla. I have just added a Radeon Hd 5450 into it (want to add multiple monitors) and when installing the Catalyst software (v 13.9) will not install, throwing a generic "Install package failure" message (that's all what is recorded in the install log...).

So just to be clear:

  • the downloaded file is auto-extracting ok
  • the initial install procedure runs fine. The hardware is seemingly auto-detected
  • Catalyst install manager is launched - and fails with this message.
  • Although there was no previous AMD software on this machine I still tried to run amd_cleanup_util_1.2.1.0.exe before re-strarting the procedure from a fresh download but exact same problem.

Muss confess that I am baffled at this stage...

What's my next step ?

Any advice / suggestion most welcome

If only this was reproducable. I would so much ProcessMonitor the hell out of it.

Still, as far as I know it's caused by registry corruption caused by a cleaner untility. One that messes with the windows installer database. Have you used any of those ever (on this system)? Something like driver sweeper/fusion, registry cleaners/optimizers etc.

Well your wishes are my command:

I dont think this machine was ever registry optimised but I would not put it beyond the user to have done such a thing...
