I was trying to install ATI drivers (on computer with HD5450) on Windows 7 Professional N fresh installation. Every single time it failed - CCC, HDMI and display driver was installed successfully, but AMD Drag and Drop Transcoding and AMD Media Foundation Decoders always failed.
I was trying to google for a solution but couldn't find any. I found simliar topics also on this forum - transcoding/decoding failed but I noticed that all these topics had something similiar - the driver was installed on Windows N edition.
Not installing these 2 features resulted, in my case, to not having DXVA video playback which is really important for me. All the suggestions made were about uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, Windows, ...it's all wrong. I tried 2 fresh installations on FRESH Win 7 with SP1, it simply doesn't work with N edition.
What you need to successfully install the trans/decoders is this package for your Windows 7:
Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 KN with Service Pack 1 (KB968211)
That's actually all what's missing from the N edition. I'm sure there are similiar packages for other Windows editions.
I don't understand, why AMD doesn't put this as requirements somewhere or didn't fix the installation package for N users. After installing this update, the driver installation is successful and DXVA playback works as it should. Please let people know about this. Thank you.
