I went to Best Buy last night and I got me a Radeon R7 460x cause it was on sale and seeme dlike a good card.  I got it home, installed it, popped in the CD, installed the software, restarted, no driver.  I then totaly uninstalled Catalyst suit and all drivers, then reinstalled the apropriate suit that specificly had the R7 460x drivers, installed that suit, restarted...again no driver, I did this 3 times in a row thinking maybe it just had an instalation problem.  I finally went to a 3rd party company that sells this card (Saphire) looked at their driver selection and I noticed they had no selection for Vista at all (they had driver selections for XP, 7, and 8, but NOT vista).

I am very upset about this and have wasted hours and hours trying to find a proper driver for this video card, please tell me if there even is a Radeon R7 460x driver for Vista or if it's some corruption issue.

There are no Vista drivers for that card.

i'am sure this is just an oversight by amd and drivers will be supplied A.S.A.P as there has been no official statement saying that they are NOT supporting Vista.

Be patient ;-) try raise a ticket with them

Not really. If you read the other vista threads, you'll see that one of the upset vista users took the time to contact AMD, and they said that currently they cannot promise a Vista driver. In company language that means f. off, we no longer support Vista...

I beg to differ. A large corporate and responsible organisation such as AMD would surely make an announcement if this was the case. I'm sure it is a oversight. Their major competitors Nvidia are still supporting vista as I assume AMD are.

That statement means nothing at all. If they'd ceased to support an OS then an annoncement would've been made....IMHO

They did not announce the complete halt of the 4k- series, still, no drivers since january. The official announcement still promises a new driver every 3 months. Or was it the pre-HD cards? Does not matter, there was no announcement. So yes, you may expect a vista driver in 10 months or more...

HD 2000-4000 series cards are still on quarterly updates for Windows 7 and above. While it does suck in a way that AMD dropped support for Vista, considering it's pretty much the same damn OS as 7, but for a company like AMD that has to focus their resources, it makes much more sense to focus on 7, 8, 8.1, and Linux than Vista with its 5% and shrinking market share.

13.9 - 13.1 = 8 months --> 1 year = 32 months? o_O

Doesn't change the point though. Switch to linux, people. Windows is dying.

Windows isn't dying, Microsoft is trying to force Windows to become something the public doesn't necessarily want. That, and them charging so much for essentially a full service pack (though they did realize that was a bad idea and gave all Windows 8 users a free upgrade to 8.1), and years of stagnation instead of innovation. It took Firefox for Microsoft to realize how crappy IE really was, and then Chrome for them to really start throwing resources back at it. Now with Android and other Linux dristos really starting to gain ground, and people getting fed up with Microsoft not listening to their users, and some personnel changes at Microsoft, Windows should be able to really punch back on the next release, if they're SMART.

thx's for the idea but already tried it....it appeared to install but after reboot it showed that 13.4 was stillinstalled . Also lost my Vision Engine control center.. So back to 13.4 and checking for a second-hand Gtx 660 ti to replace this card , which I'll sell ASAP

I know people dont like to hear it,but I remember when vista came out and how most people I know in the BF gaming community could never get it to work properly.I totally skipped it for that reason. When W7 came out,I upgraded from XP which was a great OS,to W7 64 and have never looked back.

To me anyways,W7 took over where XP left off.

The brand may not be, but the system we use and like is. Do you really think they'll throw out the metro crap after advertising it so much and forcing it into the least 2 windows versions? They will kill the desktop instead, they might even puch Google in the face and kill Android, but that system won't be windows, even if the name stays.

Who knows, they threw out Aero after just two. Also don't forget there has been quite a shakeup at Microsoft since this Windows 8 stuff started.

They threw out the transparency effect. That damn WDDM and DWM are still very much alive. But the guy above you is right, this is off topic.

Back on topic: Anyone tried modding/debugging the latest beta under Vista? Which binary is incompatible and why? Missing dependencies, OS bug etc.? Maybe the driver can be patched, files replaced etc. Are there no modders here?

I have a feeling that it could be as simple as a flag which prevents installation if Vista is detected as the OS.

Although tickets have been raised with amd support no one person has been able to answer a straight forward , simple question:

Will there be a driver update for Vista....

Anyone know where I can pick up a copy of win 7 ...cheap....but legit...to replace my perfectly good and stable Vista?? (Rhetorical)

:-(

If you have no issues with reinstalling the system sometimes, you should pick up the official enterprise trial from Microsoft. It gives you time to get familiar with it, use it for free, and in the meantime, look for a cheap license to buy. It lasts for 90 days I think, thats a lot of time. More than what an average XP install can survive.
