HI AG636

Just wanted to tag along your message I am also having the same exact problem.

I moved from a GTX 590 to the 290x and I am having no luck getting this card to work.

I was running windows 8.0 and all I got was blue screens

I did a clean installed with Windows 8.1 and I got red screens

I then did another clean installed with windows 7 Pro 64 bit and it also blue screens

The video card becomes unstable when I run any game, I've installed every possbile set of drives that AMD has posted on the web site and also followed directions from others who have had this issue.

I know for a fact that my hardware is not the problem, I've been using the same hardware for 2 years without any problems.

System Specs:

Asus P8P67 WS Revolution

Intel i7 2600k

16GB GSkill Ripjaws X

Intel SSD

1200w Antec TPQ-1200

I am very disappointed since I've never had any issues with Nvidia but when I decide to try AMD i get this issue.

I had a ton of crashes when I got my card. I flashed the latest firmware on my motherboard, increased the max fan speed to 100%, increased the max power by 15%, and reduced the target GPU temp from 95c to 75c.

The 13.11 V9.4 drivers seem to reset the power/fan changes. I reconfigured those after updating the drivers.. but they don't seem to stick. They've since been reset to defaults again. That said, I haven't had any crashes.

I think the main fix for me was the mb firmware update.

I'm not sure if my issue is the exact same. I have 2 r9 290x in crossfire have tested them in 3 systems amd 990fx vishira cpu, x58 i7 970 cpu, and x79 i7 3930k cpu. All 3 systems preform same issue black screen any time you open browser and go to any type of youtube video imidiate blackscreen, driver has recovered in tray or just sits at black screen (seems to have been better chance of recovery (recovery was not usable in games) on older beta drivers than the recent ones) the latest drivers will not recover infact i get corrupted image or not recoverable blackscreen, funny thing is when i hit the power button to shut down the corrution went away and the computer went to functioning normal b4 it managed to shut down. At any rate from what i have observed this is a driver issuse not hardware based. Both cards act exactly the same even after water blocks are installed and temps never above 36c. Here is to hoping amd can get this issue fixed ASAP!

Ok so I updated my Flash player and updated all windows updates. Gpu now recovers, so no bsod (I did manage to get a BSOD after I updated flash) After GPU recover the GPU memory speed is locked to 150mhz and will not recover untill a system restart is preformed. So updates helped (wasent a crash untill I opened second youtube video) but still not fixed... Help would be appreciated.

I greet all.
I am the owner of a video card "Sapphire R9 r290x."
I had constant crashes with the operating system and also with the games.
To resolve this I used the "TriXX OC Utility" https://www.sapphireselectclub.com/ssc/TriXX/ to adjust the fan speed at a constant speed. I do not know if this software could work for video cards from other manufacturers. I had tried before to know that there was an official tool "MSI Afterburner" but I can not solve any problem because it did not regulate properly the fan.
With gpu-z http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ you can monitor fan speed, GPU temperature and more ...
The last driver "amd_catalyst_13.11_betav9.5" but not only with this version, but I caused crash problems with Steam games.
I have found that by using the "big picture" of steam just crash occurred.
It was enough to remove the "ability of the community from the steam game" settings to make sure that the games would work without crashing.

Now I'm doing some tests to find the value to be taken for the fan.
For the stability of the operating system without any game started I did not have any kind of problem for more than eight hours with the fan speed set to 50% and the gpu has a current temperature of 55.0 degrees with the current climate that here at when it is cold.

Do all updates from flash to windows like the .net stuffs for now. I talked to AMD they said they are aware of the issue and are currently working to fix it, apparently its a Direct X problem and they are having some difficlty geting it sorted out. So unfortantly no solution as of yet but after i did my updates i do not get bsod. I also asked them to please up date the comunity on this so people do not spend money sending back good hardware. Who knows if they will.

Also do not run any type of flash content or basicly any video while you have a 3d app (game) running. That should help make your system functional.

You guys are under the wrong impression. This is not AMD technical support. This is a gaming peer-to-peer support forum. There are no engineers here who can do one little thing for your problems. Instead of wasting your time posting your pleas for help/answers..you should report your issues to the proper department. That would be the Technical Support Department..aka 'The Catalyst Crew'. On the driver download page..just below where it describes the drivers and fixes..is a "ISSUE REPORT FORM". That is a report that goes direct to the technicians. When you selected this forum from the main forum selections, the first thing you see is "ISSUE REPORT FORM". If you ever look in the FAQ section..you will find a list of e-mail address and telephone number to TECHNICAL SUPPORT in every country AMD does business in. So everyone of you need to report your issue. Remember that reporting a issue is not starting a dialog with support..don't expect a answer back. If enough people report the same issue, and its reproducible, the the fix (if the issue is caused by the drivers) will appear in a future Beta or WHQL.
