I posted this in a different section by accident so sorry for the double post.

I have been having issues with my R7 freezing up Windows 8.1. The R7 freezes up so bad I cant even CRT/ALT/DEL to restart it and I have to use the power button to restart.

System:

AMD Phenom ll X4 965 processor 3.42 Ghz

GIGABYTE Motherboard GA-MA785GMT-UD2H

12 gig Kingston DDR3 1333 Ram

650w power supply

Windows 8.1

-----------------------

Reinstalled old card and windows installed ATI Radeon HD 4600
series (MS Corp WDDM V1.1)
System is stable
-------------------------
Then reinstalled new card again (R7 260X) with Catalyst 13.12 WHQL Drivers, wiping all the old stuff out. Also tried 13.11 and CD install drivers only to have Windows 8.1 constantly freeze up.

I have undated my MB bios
I have updated Win 8.1
I have not over clocked anything
I tried returning the card to the retailer and all they will tell me is AMD is working on it
then refuse to take the card back despite me only having it for a week and a half.
Cant think of anything else to try.
Any suggestions?
At this point, the card makes a great $150 paper weight... and thats about it.

What do mean by "wiping all the old stuff out." Also, when does it freeze up, have you tried making a second partition on your HDD and installing (but not activating) Windows 8.1 again, or tried a Live CD version of a Linux distro?

Sorry. By wiping out the old stuff I mean making sure to wipe a previous drives software out.

The freeze is totally random. Can happen 2 min into logging in and trying to open some thing to 10 mins and ill be typing along or doing something on-line and it will just randomly freeze up.

I ran the entire day today with my old Radeon HD 4670 FX card without a single screen freeze. As soon as I put my Radeon R7 260x back into the comp and loaded the drivers.. 5 min latter total freeze and Im forced to push button restart on my case to re load everything cause even CTR/ATL/DEL doesn't work.

Mostly happens when your trying to "do" something. Not so much when your in the middle or closing something

The reason I asked how you wiped them out is if you used a program like DriverCleaner, you need to just go ahead and reinstall Windows 8.1.

After weeks of problem solving and fighting with the retailer.. their tech discovered a poorly soldered connection on the graphics card. The card has been replaced and my comp is running great again.
