I had the same problem.I found installing - Windows 8.1 - solved the issue. All previous Windows do not have the generic  Ati R9 290/x drivers in their database, so the graphics card won't install correctly. That in turn causes the Cataslyt software to not work properly either.Hope that helps.

Windows 8.1 pro 64  (Previously Windows 7  SP1  64)

Cataslyt 13.12

Intel i7 950 (watercooler Antec H20 920)

12 GB Ram Triple channel DDR3 @ 801MHz (8-8-8-24)

Asustek P6X58D PREMIUM (LGA1366) Motherboard

Sapphire R9 290 OC Toxic Edition (Previously Sapphire 5870 reference)

Intel SS 149 GB  DSA2M160G2GC

Displays LG M2362D,Sony KDL32W705B and Dell Touch  S2340T(Primary)

HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CH10LS20
PIONEER BD-RW BDR-203

Antec 193 case

P.S. I guess Windows 8.1 is good for something afterall..
