I was attempting to fix some video issues with my computer so I ran drivercleaner and uninstalled and then reinstalled the 13.12 Catalyst drivers.  Unforunately, I am never able to complete the installation of the drivers because about 60% of the way through the installation process I receive a "the INF file was not found" error.  I have been unable to fix this error.

How can I go about correcting this problem?

Thanks.

Driver cleaner deleted an important system file (that inf file). Reinstall your OS and don't use tools like that.

Contact AMD and ask what inf files it need to install the drivers then download them and isntall them etc since they didnt bother adding that in the error message.

Or buy a nvidia card. I bet you dont get that message if u try to install the nvidia drivers.

Edit: Or it might be a registry key u need. Whatever it is ATI should know what u need and they shouldve posted this on the FAQ. This is 2014, surely such a simply thing should not require a FULL re-install of the operating system.

I guess we are resorting to the almight format c: already.  Aren't there better ways to deal with these kinds of problems than wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS?  It's a good thing I keep Windows on its own separate physical HD just for this reason.

Still any suggestions that don't involve format c: would be appreciated.  I have contacted AMD regarding this problem, and I am also strongly tempted to just switch back to Nvidia (past 3 cards were Nvidia, never had a problem with them).

System inf files serve as header files in C/C++. They include each other. One disappears and anything that depends on it will ceise to function. It's not AMD's fault, it's how windows was designed.

There's an example for you:

If you can find out what is missing, you can try to restore it from another computer/VM of course.

I had a similar problem upgrading the driver for my ATI Radeon HD 5770 card.  When trying to install 13.12 it gave me a 'Missing INF File' error and failed.  AMD support suggested that I re-install Windows and that the missing INF file was a Windows file.  They could not identify the file name itself (it is not noted in the install log).  I solved the problem by installing a legacy driver (Version 13.152.1.800), which is noted as Driver Download 13-9).  Hope that helps.  I tried multiple legacy drivers and received a variety of errors and problems. 13-9 finally installed without error and is working fine so far.
