So seeing the chart above and Nvidia stating that it's from optimizing drivers for DX11 or whatever, what does amd have to say about this?  Do they have an answer to this other than mantle?

Quote from:

http://wccftech.com/nvidias-dx11-driver-337xx-arrive-april/

"Nvidia revealed in a talk at GTC that the DX11 API update that was showcased on the previous GTC session will arrive in the form of a Geforce Driver, more specifically the Geforce 337.xx Driver. It will be released sometime in April and will result in very significant performance gains inside the DX11 API itself. The new driver takes a well known approach to solve CPU overhead without moving to a new API (DX12 for example). The approach is called ‘Tiled Resources’ and a weak variant of the same is also used in Mantle API. This will also grant Developers more control at the Assembly level.

The numbers revealed by Nvidia were very impressive, especially considering that Low Level access is not possible without a rewrite of the API, this is pretty impressive. Ofcourse, the benchmarks themselves came under criticism because of the fact that a very high end processor was used to test a supposedly “CPU-Overhead-Reducing” Driver. However the performance gain on that very same processor just by shifting to this new driver is quite decent.

Now the numbers that were released showed a decrease in CPU overhead by a factor of about 4.This should result in a performance increase of leaps and bounds in multi-gpu configurations. Of course the fact remains, that if these charts were rigged or manipulated by Nvidia in any way, we will find out soon enough. When the driver is released and third party benchmarks emerge, it will become clear whether Nvidia was true to it word or not."

There's no need for an answer. Mantle is all about consoles. Consoles have AMD APUs. Niether Microsoft nor Sony will just redesign them after launch just because nvidia releases some driver update.

What that says is that AMD is forcing nVidia to do what they haven't wanted to do, and that is get their driver team off their butts and work for optimizations, not just bug fixes. Remember as well that Mantle is still a beta level product, and that both nVidia and AMD provided benchmark results should never be trusted as a typical result.

Mantle is about utilizing older hardware to function better in newer games.

Most gamers are NOT "hardware enthusiasts"...

No, mantle is GCN only. Older hardware don't support it and never will.

YES IT DOES...everyone knows about GCN...specifically referring to cpus.

Try again.

Yeah...would use Nvidia cards, too, but, having two of their cards just up and die... I don't expect long life out of them even though they offer terrific performance.

It's probably your improper definiton of older hardware then. Do you know what is older hardware? A Radeon 9800 Pro...

By older hardware was thinking cpus, such as Phenom 810, or old RAM 4 Gb DDR2...maybe a Pentium 4...that sort of "old".

I'm sure they're old compared to non-noob components... Problem is when the component is non-noob, but the owner is.
