I have tried everything - but the problem is always there, unless no AMD software is installed.

I have completely uninstalled all AMD software using the cleanup utility. I have installed the previous version 13.12, but the error still appears. Strangely this error was not there prior to installing 14.4, but now it is there using 13.12 even though the cleanup utility was used.

So nothing seems to clear this except to uninstall all AMD software using the cleanup utility. However, when subsequently installing any AMD graphics software the error returns.

Most probably the issue is caused by you using the AMD clean uninstall utility. The forum is full of posts regarding this. Your best bet is to use system restore to a earlier point....then install the 14.4 drivers using the following method.

To perform a 'clean install' of AMD graphics drivers:

1. IMPORTANT: All Windows Updates should be current, including the 'optional/suggested' updates
2. IMPORTANT: Disable all anti-virus/ad blockers/anti-malware/ anti-anything before trying to install
3. IMPORTANT: Netframework is required and must be the latest version. (from Windows Update)

Create a system restore point before, just in caes.

Download the drivers for your computer to the desktop. Follow steps 1-5 ( http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ).
Do not use 'auto-detect and install.

Delete existing drivers from your computer:

In computer control panel select 'uninstall a program'
For computers with Intel processors:
Select AMD install manager and choose 'express uninstall all AMD software'
Including the install manager.

For computers with AMD processors:
Select AMD install manager and 'custom uninstall' the graphics drivers and CCC only.

Reboot

Install the new driver suite.

Check out in the registry what file is registered for the service and if it's actually there.

Hi,

When I have uninstalled all AMD software I searched the registry for 'AODDriver', and deleted any found (I believe there were 2 or 3 keys).

These are the currently installed keys for 'AOD Driver', Catalyst 14.4:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\ECCAB69D774712F47B3A3D351502F961

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Fuel\amd64\aoddriver2.sys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AODDriver4.3

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AODDriver4.3

I meant the services.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AODDriver4.2.0

As ImagePath it shows "\??\C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Fuel\amd64\AODDriver2.sys" for me.

I can locate "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Fuel\amd64\AODDriver2.sys" and have no issues. How about you?

Hi,

I do not have this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AODDriver4.2.0

I have:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AODDriver4.3.0

As ImagePath it shows "\??\C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Fuel\amd64\AODDriver2.sys".

I can locate "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Fuel\amd64\AODDriver2.sys"

So why do I get the error?

In your OP it was 4.2.0.

If you have no such service, how would windows show an error about it?

I may have solved this. I again uninstalled all AMD Software using normal uninstaller. Then ran the AMD Cleanup utility. As previously stated this made the error disappear.
I then installed v13.12, error returned (as expected). Upgraded to v14.4, error still there (as expected).
Here is the difference - I stopped, then disabled the 'AMD Fuel Service'. I then deleted the single reference to 'AODDriver 4.2.0' in the registry. Rebooted. Error now gone. Have rebooted a few times over two days and there is no sign of it, so hopefully that has solved the problem.

I will wait a few more days before confirming, but it looks good.

Just to confirm that I appear to have resolved the problem as above.

No repeats of the problem since these actions were taken.
