I was in Chrome on the web and got a BSOD refering to ATIKMAG.sys on a brand new build. The build has been completely stable for over a week. No gaming but lots of graphical (Photoshop) work. Running.....

- HIS R9 280X Vid

- Asus Z79 Sabertooth v2

- 32GB GSkill DDR3

- Hazwell i7-4770K cpu

- Win7pro 64-bit

No overclocking. Fresh install of the OS with only Chrome, CS6, ACDSee, and a couple other programs. All the latest chipset and hardware drivers. Photoshop demand has not produced any crashes or BSODs. Just surfing in Chrome.

Thought I'd add to the list of BSODs on these drivers. As not having an ATI card for a while what Catalyst drivers are best for stability and graphical work. Don't do any gaming on this sytem.

Thanks!

I'm getting the same BSOD on my new build as well when I am using Chrome.  I have had mine for a month and it was Rock Solid stable until today.  I also noticed that MS did some updates so I am guessing one of the KB udpates is what is buggering my my system:

- MSI Z87 G45

- Haswell i5 4670K

- XFX R9 280X Black OC edition

- 8GB Gskill Ripjaw DDR3

- Win 8.1 Pro

So far no gaming has caused this issue.

Things you can try:

1. Reinstall flash player manually.

2. Clean install latest or previous catalyst drivers.

3. Disable hardware acceleration in browser and/ or flash player.

4. Reinstall browser (after backing up settings/ bookmarks).

5. Change browser.

My personal recommendation is the fifth option.

Test and post back.

Thanks.

Pretty much every 200 series card is a rebrand of the HD 7000 series. The 280X, for example, is just a 7970 Ghz Edition.

No, i was being a smuck.

Nothing to do with you.

And to be clear, that was also a hint to the glory days of ATI.

I mean, i used to anticipate the next set of drivers with great expectations and usually i got those 4%, 6%, 12%, 20% boost in a lot of games.

Now i don't even make the effort to look at the release notes, you know ?

Am i wrong ?

In the days of the 9600XT, games were programmed well. In the days of today, we have AC4, Watch Dogs, and countless other games with more bugs than a can of Raid could kill, and developers who don't care because they make it look good enough to sell.

No, i think it's the publishers, but i see what you mean.

Watch_dogs would probably need another 6 month development/ testing to mimimize bugs and optimize performance, but marketing calls for deadlines.

Fingers crossed, gta v will be another story, coming from a studio with a good reputation that is ....

When you get a bsod related to flash, it's usually either the card doing the power state switching wrong, or the motherboard not being able to bear the power mode switching. (The card switches there and back between 2d and uvd clocks based on demand, this is normal behavior.)

You should check for bios updates for both the motherboard and the card.

Why would this just start cropping up after a month of no issues?

Only thing I have done so far was to run the repair on the AMD Catalyst Install Manager from Programs and Features and so far I have had no issues after 24 hours.  Again no issues at all when playing games and Yesterday was the only time I had issues using Chrome so time will tell how it all works out.
