They may be the moderator only portions of the forum, on the processor forum we have a moderator only area. Since I'm a mod at the processor forum I only see the mod portion on the list not private topic area... so maybe that is it?

It's for inviting your buddies to join a conversation without having a public thread about how much you hate McDonalds, Apple or whatever it is you wish to discuss between friends .. ( or at least it used to be that before the forum changes .. ) ..

TBH I never saw any point in Private Topics. If people want to chat on a forum threads are the format that is offered. If you wanna 'chat' with your buddies get on Skype or twitter etc., but to have private places on a public forum (other than a Mods Room) is just a waste imho.

I don't use that stuff either. Well, I do USE Facebook, but I only use it for TV shows, networks, and companies, I don't use it for games or to find out when someone I don't know had to go to the bathroom What got me is they saw fit to remove the Legacy section and Laptop section while leaving that.

Well, it's all relative I suppose. I'm juggling running my own business, learning Chinese, travelling back and forth to France to touch base with friends there and keep the lingo going etc.

I keep in touch with my friends "face to face" rather than check a website to see what beers they're drinking and where etc .. I'd rather socialise in real-time and in real life, rather than sit in front of a PC doing social media and have 950 virtual facebook friends who I'll never meet / know .. Thanks ..

Heh, that reminds me of that commercial where the girl says she was really pressing to get her parents on Facebook, they have 19 friends ("so sad") and I have 347 friends, and it shows her looking at Facebook saying "that's not a real puppy!" and her parents are out riding bicycles with several others.
