Seems like an odd question doesn't it? I did it last night (Firefox) for the first time in two years...Well, I tried to anyway, but I guess it was so much to do it wouldn't work, it'd just stop responding while using 100% of one CPU core and constantly increase in memory usage (otherwise known as a memory leak.) It got so bad that I had to delete the profile and create a new one (after copying the files which hold the passwords, bookmarks, and extensions of course), something which had not been done since Firefox 3.

So how often do you clear out everything and start again

Most of the applications I work on end up on the web in one way or another, so I do it a lot more commonly than the average user.

Also... that probably wasn't a real memory leak. Most memory leaks are slow and aren't readily noticable unless the app has been running for a few days or more.  Typically they happen only in languages that allow you to do your own memory management... unless the leak happens somewhere outside of the developer's control.

I had to a few weeks ago. I use Firefox Sync and it bugged out when my history reached 12MB or something . It was no longer able to sync it, so I had to start afresh. No problems since then, syncing works fine. My current history data is approx 3MB.

Dude, what would you want to clear your browser history? It's really important dude. I stil keep mine from many years years ago. It helps me a lot to find the old pages or URLs that i want to re-visit in the future.

To be perfectly honest, i love video games. And a LOT. But for now, i think i just want to play simple games on Android or iOS. Besides, Bioshock is about to arrive soon on mobile! Hooray! Current machine: AMD Core-duo Turion-x2 ATI Redeon Compaq CQ40

I hate cookies (especially the "super" ones}, i bookmark any interesting or hard-to-find-again pages and configure my browser to not remember a thing (like a private browsing).

I also make a bookmark back-up every now and then, and try to have my browser (mostly firefox) as light as possible (mimimal plugins).

Never had any serious problems or browser freezes like that.

If i have compatibility issues, i use the old trusted ie. Works every time.

But, i usually end up doing some additional cleaning with the help of a software  from time to time.
