What is the future for AMD i understand no more FX chips, AND AMD will not be emigrating steamroller to its desktop ????.

Piepline says new chips in 2016, but what will they be ,what is AMD going to do , as to keep competative and bring new tech to the table. maybe some form of hyperthreading, ?? who knows, AMD got to get your finger pout and come with some new cpu's to blow us away.New MB's have to have pcie 3.o or better in 2016 , which i presume will be new socket and chipset .

Love AMD , gotta get some new things out ,competative.

Also slightly of my topic, wouldnt it be great to have a gpu with a single chip on it with four cores, oh my what a feckin card that would be ,blow Nvidia clean of the map.lol.

Just thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss, and for people to air there views and any info they may have.

I may have some things wrong above, please excuse me if i have . no ones perfect.

Will be interesting to see what happens, I keep wondering if my 8350 is one of the last of its kind and I'll be building my next main gaming rig around an APU, or if there actually will be some kind of successor to the FX line.

Especially when you look at the XBOX One and PS4, and phones, and servers, and HPCs...

It's been pretty clear for well over a year now that Big Core died with Piledriver.

And now with rumors that Carrizo will be mobile-only, does anyone really expect a course change this late in the game? Of course not (with or without Jim Keller).

The product portfolio diversification strategy is working (fairly) well and the turnaround is indeed happening. Bulldozer nearly sunk the company -- without the console deals and the rest of the Radeon division, we might not have seen the same sort of recovery as we did.

AMD's top-end products will continue to drive downwards into the mobile / low-power market segments and away from traditional processors.

And oh ya -- if you hear anything about a move towards 12 cores for the 2016 product line, just look to Kaveri -- there's your 12 cores right there.

At this point, it's better to just be a shareholder and use your capital gains to buy one of those other CPUs that come in the blue boxes with the cheapo stock cooler they've been using for way too long. Having said that, you, I, and everyone else probably won't care enough to go to all of that trouble as that's not where today's consumer needs are.

So what are we going to see looking into the 2nd half of this decade?

  • More mid to low-power APUs (both dedicated x86, dedicated ARM, and combo units (ala Skybridge) -- covering both consumer and enterprise segments.
  • Bigger moves into HSA & graphics. Kaveri & Carrizo are just the beginning.
  • More semi-custom design wins (there are a few in the pipeline for later this year).
  • 20nm in (late) 2015.
  • Probably another logo & slogan change somewhere in there.

I say by 2020 home computers with a 16 core 2ghz processor will be THE thing to have, as games will have finally moved to take advantage of many low speed cores by then thanks to the console kiddies.

The next series of chips will integrate the chipset onto the CPU die itself, the same way current APUs do.
