I can't run mine 24/7, the heat would kill me. My ideal ambient temperature for sleeping is about 55°F, and in the late spring/summer (not right now thankfully, high pressure is drawing down cold air to give 40s and 50s at night, unseasonably cool) it's damn near 80°F when I go to sleep...
I can turn my PC into a power hungry monster but I don't see the point since the performance is already very satisfaing.
Actualy I let the system to default, to do what ever it want based on the software demands. So if I play a game and the system doesn't turbo boost I'm fine.
Also, an other thing is the heat. Very much like every knolegable PC user, heat is the worst enemy after water XD. During summer (I live in Greece) the average temp in my case is 72.0ºF (day) and 52.40ºF(night). So if I OC then I have prety more chances to fray my system and much more to slow it donw.
Those temps by the way are with the A/C on , so if I no A/C then the temp sky rockets at 104.0ºF~113.0ºF
So...balance is the best choice for me.

I haven't really changed anything, or messed around with my system in over a year. The only thing I did when I built the system was change the stock CPU cooler to a more quiet Zalman CPNS5x.
I am quite content to have a computer that just works for what it is.

That's why I stopped running Linux at home. It's come a long way in recent years to being more desktop-friendly, but it still requires me to think sometimes. Doing my mod projects provide me with enough geekery, and after a day spent forcing software to do unnatural things, I don't want to think.
