When I use Catalyst's CPU Overdrive feature, I am left with an extreme hesitation even in the most mundane tasks. It doesn't matter if its a 100mhz bump or 500mhz it happens the same.

Switching tabs in IE, or typing in text fields becomes a pain.

I have a Samsung SSD 830, 16GB of 1333 ram, the FX-4170, and the HD7870

games stagger too, FPS can alternate from 200+ to 10,

This is my first time overclocking, and obviously I need help.

Well, my issue might stem from me never switching from a balanced power setting to a "High Performance" one.

I changed that, and all seems to be going fine now.

First I would't use AOD to overclock with its always best to go into BIOS and change settings there.

Second I would suggest on getting a good aftermarket heatsink/fan before you really start OC'ing that cpu (if you have't already done so.)

Also can you post what make and model of motherboard you are using.
