Ok so i just got my new Sapphire 6950 2gig card. I am playing GTA and everything is fine until it starts raining. When it rains i get all these flashing lights in the sky and where ever there is rain. Now depending where i am in the city depends on the color of the flashing lights. At the air port they are orange and on the second island they are red or green but only when it's raining.

I am thinking it could be a driver issue as every other game runs perfect even ATi Tool runs perfect with no artifacts. Call of Duty: Black Ops runs perfect same with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. So i am running the latests 10.12a Hotfix drivers and i have tried 10.12 and got the same thing.

Can someone help me out here if you have a 6950 can you please run GTAIV with the Weather on Raining and Time of day on Evening.

The card runs furmark and stone giant perfectly. No artifacts everything is perfect. I don't understand why it screws up in GTA the only thing i can think of is drivers.

Thanks any advice would be great.

Me too, I can see green flashing lights when raining.
I am using HIS 6970 and using the driver from the CD.
Before this 6970 upgrade, I was using 4870 but don't see this problem.

I'm having massive loss of performance with my 6870 on GTA IV and EFLC. I'm guessing the drivers need to mature, they're still quite new. Let's wait a bit.

I've tried other games and they seem to be working pretty good so far, so good.

I get the exact same problem, i posted some( not very good ) pix over on Guru3d - http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=335460. I thought my card was faulty.

Rain is red during the day and green at night, it happens in GTA IV and EFLC - http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/1046/gtaivartifactsmall.jpg

I can confirm that with the new 11.1 drivers the issue in GTAIV Episodes still remains. Nothing has changed.

True dat. I've been mailing with R* and they have tried to help me but all they do is tell me to give them DXDIAG and told me to install few things (which I already have) and the last step now they told me to use Driver Sweeper and install the latest drivers again, which is going to be useless because I always do that when installing new one's.

Same problem on a stock 6950, it must be a driver issue, but why doesn't it get fixed ASAP??????

And NO, the ram has nothing to do with it! (I have 8GB) Right now I'm running 2 Sapphire HD 6950 2GB cards in crossfire and that's 4GB of VRAM!

Performance is worse with two cards than one!

I'm using catalyst 11.6 drivers and also having this issue on a 6950. While raining, I see green stars flicking in the sky, it's extremely annoying. I have tried many things to solve this, but with no luck.

Please fix this AMD!

I would like an answer. Does AMD acknowledge this?

I found this on another website, so I can't take credit for it. But, if you go to Program Files (x86) > Rockstar Games > Grand Theft Auto IV > common > data.

Then scroll down to the bottom and open the file "visualsettings.dat" (not the excel document below it) with notepad, and then go to 17th line down you will see a line called "rain.UseLitShader". Change the value of this line to 0.00 and you shouldn't have the issues with particles in the rain anymore.

That sounds interesting. I shall try it out. Would graphics quality get reduced with this modification?

Sorry, I've been out of town. from what I can tell there is no lose in graphic quality. From what I remember on the forum I found it on the original poster stated that ATI 6900 cards didn't utilize the shader right.

Update for anyone interested: 11.7 have not fixed this issue. I have verfied it myself.

False, when running Xfire or SLI the VRAM is equal to the VRAM on the card with the least memory, so it would'nt matter if you had one card with 100GB VRAM and one with 2GB, you would only be able to use 2gb.

That being said, I still have this "red rain" problem and I cant seem to be able to fix it ;(
