There are two parts to this thread really because there are two main times that crysis chrashes. I own crysis on steam by the way.

My PC specs:

Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

Radeon saphire 5770 1Gb

Ati phenom II 955 BE @3.6GHz

4Gb 1333MHz DDR3 ram

Not the best of machines I know but I can normally play crysis on medium graphics just fine.

Problem one: In the main menu, when I try and change the graphics settings the games freezes, I have tried running it in compatibility mode for but XP and Vista but it doesnt make a difference. The only thing I can do is close the game and restart it, the graphic options stay changed though.

Problem 2: When you are on the aircraft carrier, you are attacked by one of the massive aliens. I have read around and apparenly this part is very graphics heavy but even with all the graphics turned down to low the frame rate gets worse as the fight goes on, starting at about 60 or more going down to as little as 5 and occasionally stopping for a second or two, after this both the game and my computer freeze so the only thing I can do is to restart my PC.

Any advise on how to solve these problems would be much apreciated.

Also, some advise on how to kill the alien would be much apreciated.

Phenom II X4 955BE @ 3.6GHz
Asus M4A89GTD/USB3
ATi Radeon HD 5770
4Gb Corsair 1600MHz
1Tb Samsung Spinpoint F1

Some guesses..

Remove OC. Some games are sensitive to OCs

remove all non essential USB devices.

disable all non essential software either with msconfig on startup or shutting stuff down from the systray.

Killing the alien?? Don't you shoot him/her in the knees/joints or something?? Bah!! Can't remember. I'm sure there's walkthroughs out there.

I didn't have the first problem, but I did have the second. Try running Crysis in direct x 9 instead of 10.

To start the game in DX9, right click the crysis shortcut on your desktop and add -dx9 to the end of the string in the target box.

EXAMPLE: D:\games\Bin64\crysis.exe -dx9

I can't count the number of times I've finished Crysis; it's still my most favorite game.  What I always do to finish.  You need the Gauss, TAC cannon, and a rocket launcher.  I assume you know how to get all of the turrets knocked out?  And to follow Helena's cue on when to use the TAC cannon on the two main turrets?  You do have the TAC cannon, right?  The game should auto save one you've got the two main turrets knocked out.  First thing is never stop moving.  Doesn't matter where you go, just don't stop moving around or you'll get killed.  Once Psycho tells you the ship is going to hit the deck you have to use the rocket launcher to shoot at the opening on the bottom of the ship.  Even if it opens by itself that won't work.  You have to force it open with the rocket launcher.  As soon as it opens you can take it out with the TAC cannon.  Here's the other secret.  As soon as you shoot the TAC cannon get the hell out of there.  Run toward the end of the carrier.  Just run.  Eventually the VTOL will get there and scoop you up.  I hope this helps.
