After 5 years of working my graphics card died. I bought a new HD6950 and tried to install it but my pc doesn't recognize it. It knows that I have a new card but can't identify it, instead it just installs the card as "standard vga graphics card". I deinstalled the old drivers, I have the latest mobo drivers, windows drivers and card drivers. I can browse, watch youtube videos but I can't play any game. My specs:
old card: Geforce 8800GTX
new card: Radeon HD 6950
board: NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI
system: Windows Vista 32bit
750W power supply

Could it be that my mobo is just too old to identify the card properly? Or a Radeon card on a Nvidia board? Thanks in advance.

Both reasons, obviously .. old board and an nVidia chipset .. If the manufacturer of the board doesn't have an updated BIOS for it to correctly recognise and initialise the new generation AMD cards, thenyou'll have to get a new mainboard ..
