When I set up my Dual Monitors the idle temperature increased from 38 degrees Celsius to 46 degrees Celsius.  It does this even when the other monitor is shut off.  Is it normal for the idle temperature to increase when using a Dual Monitor set up?

My dual monitor setup uses  a normal Samsung DVI monitor and a Playstaion Display.  I have a HD 5850 Graphics Card.  I have connected my Playstation Display using the HDMI port from the Display to my Graphics Card.  I use MSI Afterburner to monitor the temperature and adjust the fan settings.

Thanks in advance.

Seeing as with dual monitors the card's clocks are raised slightly to enable stable operation, then yes, quite normal whether screens are switched off or in use.

Normally you wouldn't shut the monitor off, just disable it, or create a profile that has just one screen, and let the monitor go to sleep. That way the clocks will drop to normal idle speeds.
